Things to talk about while coloring
Stars in the night sky are giant balls of hot, glowing gas, very far away. They look tiny and twinkly from Earth because of that distance. This star has a happy face, so talk about what feelings your child's star might have and draw another face on the back. The sun is a star too, just much closer to us than the others.
Coloring ideas
Yellow or gold is classic, but any color works on a happy star. Older kids can color each of the five points a different color and leave the face plain so it stands out. A pale blue or purple background makes the star pop.
A little learning
Counting the five points of the star is a great way to practice counting to five. Tracing each point with a finger, up and down, is a nice warm-up for drawing zigzag lines.
