3rd grade sight words

All 41 words from the Dolch third grade list, with a word tracing worksheet and printable flash cards.

The Dolch 3rd grade sight words are the last 41 words on the graded lists, such as laugh, myself, together, eight and shall. Many third graders already read most of them, so the goal shifts to fast, automatic reading and correct spelling. Use the flash cards for a quick daily review and the tracing sheet for words a child still misspells. If earlier lists still need work, start there. Kids move through these lists at different speeds.

Tips for 3rd grade sight words

  • Check reading speed first. Words a child reads right away can come out of the daily stack.
  • Practice the number words (six, seven, eight, ten) with real objects or a short math problem.
  • Print the tracing sheet on the small line size. It is closer to the writing size many third graders use in class.

A simple 5-minute routine

  1. Read 3 cards together. Say each word and use it in a short sentence.
  2. Trace 2 rows on the worksheet, starting at the green dots.
  3. Find one word in a book you are already reading.

Kids learn these words at different speeds. If you have concerns about reading, ask your child's teacher or pediatrician.

More handwriting practice

If a letter inside a word keeps going wrong, practice it on its own with our letter tracing worksheets, then come back to the word. For a word that matters even more to your child, make a name tracing worksheet.
