Large Easter egg with zigzag, dot and stripe bands, coloring page

Easter Egg Coloring Page

One big egg is divided into wide bands of zigzags, dots and stripes. Color each band differently to practice patterns. Afterward, use the finished page as a design plan when you dye and decorate real eggs together.

Things to talk about while coloring

Decorating eggs is a spring tradition in many countries, and some families pass down special patterns year after year. In some places, people roll eggs down a hill or race them across a lawn. Eggs also link to spring because many birds lay eggs and raise chicks at this time of year.

Coloring ideas

Give each wide band of the egg its own color, then pick contrasting colors for the zigzags and dots. Older kids can repeat a color pattern from top to bottom. When it's done, cut the egg out and hang it in a window as a spring decoration.

A little learning

Naming the zigzags, dots, and stripes, then repeating the same colors in matching bands, builds early pattern skills that support math. Counting the dots in each row is a quick extra.
