Things to talk about while coloring
Midnight is 12 o'clock at night, and it's the moment one year ends and the next begins. Both hands on this clock point straight up to the 12. Talk about the difference between the short hour hand and the long minute hand, even if your child isn't ready to read a clock yet. Some families count down the last ten seconds before midnight together.
Coloring ideas
Give the numbers bright colors and keep the clock face pale so they're easy to read. The stars in each corner can be gold or silver, and the outer ring of the clock can be any bold color. Give the two hands different colors so the short hour hand and long minute hand are easy to tell apart.
A little learning
Pointing to each number from 1 to 12 in order and saying them aloud is counting practice with numerals kids see every day.
