Things to talk about while coloring
Party hats are shaped like cones, a shape kids also see in ice cream cones and traffic cones. A party horn, sometimes called a blowout, uncurls with a toot when you blow into it. Ask your child what makes a celebration feel special to them, from music to staying up late. Some families make their own party hats out of paper.
Coloring ideas
One hat has polka dots and one has stripes, so color the dots in a rainbow and the stripes in two alternating colors. The pom-poms on top look fun in bright pink or gold, and the streamers can be every color in the box.
A little learning
Finding the dotted hat and the striped hat, then naming the cone shape, builds pattern and shape vocabulary together. Counting the polka dots on one hat makes a calm counting job for a party day.
