Things to talk about while coloring

This bunch has five balloons, and one is shaped like a star. Balloons come in many shapes besides round, from hearts to numbers. Ask your child how they would celebrate the new year if they could plan the party, from the snacks to the music. Ask your child which balloon they would hold onto at midnight.

Coloring ideas

Make every balloon its own color, and the star balloon gold or silver so it stands out in the middle. Leave the shine marks on each balloon white to make them look glossy, and color the confetti in bright dots. Tie the ribbons together at the bottom in one bright color.

A little learning

Counting the round balloons, then the star, and adding them together is an early addition problem kids can see. Comparing the round balloons with the star balloon also gives kids a chance to name both shapes.
