Two ladybugs with heart spots on a leaf, Valentine coloring page

Love Bugs Coloring Page

Two cute ladybugs with heart-shaped spots sit on a big leaf. Count the spots on each bug and see if they match. It's a fun tie-in to spring bug lessons, and the leaf gives kids plenty of green to color.

Things to talk about while coloring

Ladybugs are small beetles, and many have bright red or orange shells with black spots. When a ladybug flies, it lifts its hard outer shell and unfolds thin wings tucked underneath. Gardeners like them because they eat tiny plant-eating bugs called aphids. Like all insects, a ladybug has six legs.

Coloring ideas

Red shells with pink or black heart-shaped spots look sweet, and the faces can stay a soft black or gray. Color the big leaf in two greens, with the vein lines darker, and add a few small hearts floating above the bugs for a finishing touch.

A little learning

Counting the heart spots on each ladybug and checking whether both bugs have the same number is an easy counting and comparing task. Counting all the legs on both bugs together is a fun step up for older kids.
