Three large Christmas ornaments with stripes, stars and dots to color

Christmas Ornament Coloring Page

Three big ornaments hang from ribbons, each with its own simple pattern. Cut them out after coloring and punch a hole at the top to make paper ornaments for the tree. Older kids can design a brand-new pattern on the back.

Things to talk about while coloring

Glass ornaments first became popular on Christmas trees in Germany, and the idea spread around the world from there. Look at the three ornaments together: one has stars, one has stripes, and one has dots. Ask your child which one they would hang right at the front of the tree.

Coloring ideas

This page is made for patterns, so color the stripes in alternating colors, give each star a different shade, and make the dots a rainbow. Don't forget the bows and ribbons at the top, which can match the ornament below each one. A metallic gel pen or glitter glue on a few stars makes the page sparkle when it hangs in a window.

A little learning

Naming stars, stripes, and dots and then building a simple AB color pattern on one ornament is early pattern thinking, a building block of math.
