Things to talk about while coloring
Santa's story grew from a real man, Saint Nicholas, who was remembered for kindness and secret gift giving. Around the world he goes by other names too, like Father Christmas in England and Père Noël in France. Ask your child what they think is wrapped in the presents peeking out of Santa's sack. Talk about places Santa might visit, from snowy towns to warm beaches where it is summer in December.
Coloring ideas
A red suit, white fluffy trim, and a black belt with a gold buckle give the classic look. Let kids pick bright wrapping colors for the gifts in the sack, and older kids can add tiny stripes or dots to each one.
A little learning
Santa's waving hand makes a good moment to practice left and right: ask which hand he is waving, then have your child wave the same one.
