Things to talk about while coloring
Dinosaurs hatched from eggs, just like birds and turtles do today. Scientists have found fossil nests with dinosaur eggs still inside them. Make a list together of other animals that hatch from eggs, from chickens to crocodiles. Ask your child what kind of dinosaur this baby might grow up to be and what name they would give it. Some fossil eggs are small enough to hold in one hand, though the dinosaurs that hatched from them grew to be enormous.
Coloring ideas
Give the baby dinosaur a bright color and the egg a soft cream with speckles. The sticks in the nest are good for practicing coloring in one direction, along the length of each stick.
A little learning
Telling what happens first, next, and last as an egg hatches gives kids practice with sequence words they will use in storytelling.
