Spinosaurus with a tall back sail catching a fish in a river, coloring page

Spinosaurus Coloring Page

A spinosaurus wades through a river with a fish in its long jaws. This dinosaur was bigger than a T. rex and spent much of its time in water. Blue crayons for the river and a bold sail make this page pop.

Things to talk about while coloring

Spinosaurus had a tall sail on its back and a long, narrow snout a bit like a crocodile's. It spent a lot of time in and near rivers and caught fish, just like the one in this picture. It was one of the longest meat-eating dinosaurs scientists have found.

Coloring ideas

The sail looks striking with stripes running up it in sunset colors like red, orange, and yellow. Color the river in layers of blue, and make the fish and splashing water drops silver or light blue. Older kids can add small ripples around its legs to show the water moving.

A little learning

Talk about the word splash and the hissing S sound it starts with, then count the water drops falling from the fish together. You can also compare the long snout with the short tail of the fish.
