Things to talk about while coloring
Velociraptor was about the size of a turkey, much smaller than the ones in movies. Fossils show it had feathers, and it had a curved claw on each foot. It ran on two legs and was likely quick on its feet. Its name means "swift thief," a fun fact that fits the running pose in this picture. Many scientists see dinosaurs like this one as close relatives of today's birds, so ask your child which birds it reminds them of.
Coloring ideas
Since velociraptor had feathers, kids can make the arm feathers bright like a bird's, in blue, green, or red. Add stripes along the back and tail as a pattern challenge for older kids. Leave the long curved claw on each foot a pale gray so kids can find it easily.
A little learning
Velociraptor is a long word, so clap out its syllables together, ve-lo-ci-rap-tor, and count the claps.
