Dump truck tipping out a pile of rocks, construction coloring page

Dump Truck Coloring Page

A big dump truck tips its bed and pours out a pile of rocks. Kids can color each rock a different shade of gray or brown. Pair it with sand-box play to show how the truck's bed lifts and empties.

Things to talk about while coloring

Dump trucks carry heavy loads like dirt, sand, and rocks to building sites. The back, called the bed, tips up to pour everything out at once. Watch for dump trucks around town and talk about what they might be carrying. The biggest dump trucks work in mines and have tires taller than a grown-up.

Coloring ideas

Yellow or orange is the classic dump truck look, with black tires and gray rocks. Older kids can color each rock in a slightly different shade of gray and brown so the pile looks real. The tires can be dark gray with light gray hubs, and the cab windows light blue.

A little learning

Counting the rocks in the pile and talking about heavy and light builds math and science words. Ask your child to guess how many rocks there are before counting, then compare the guess with the real number.
