Things to talk about while coloring
A cornucopia is also called a horn of plenty, and it stands for a big, happy harvest. Point to each food and name it together: apples, pears, grapes, corn, and one small pumpkin. Then talk about where each one grows, since apples and pears hang on trees, grapes grow on vines, and corn grows on tall stalks.
Coloring ideas
Use tan and brown for the woven horn, then give each fruit and vegetable its real-life color for a quick matching lesson. Older kids can color every other strip of the weave a darker brown so the basket texture really stands out. Leaves tucked between the fruit can be green, red, or gold.
A little learning
Each grape is a small circle, so coloring the bunches one grape at a time builds fine motor control, and counting them turns it into math.
