Things to talk about while coloring
Farmers have used scarecrows for a very long time to keep hungry birds away from their crops. The crow sitting on this scarecrow's arm doesn't look scared at all, which makes for a funny conversation. Ask your child what they would use to build a scarecrow at home, from old clothes to a hat for the top. Point out the straw poking out of the sleeves and hat, since straw is what a scarecrow is usually stuffed with.
Coloring ideas
Try a plaid pattern on the shirt, blue on the overalls, and a different bright color on each patch. The corn stalks look great in green and gold, and the crow can stay black or become any bird your child likes.
A little learning
Counting the patches on the overalls and the corn plants on each side of the scarecrow mixes counting with careful looking.
