Things to talk about while coloring
Rainbows appear when sunlight shines through raindrops, which split the white light into colors. The colors always show up in the same order, with red on the outside. You can make a small rainbow on a sunny day by spraying a fine mist from a garden hose with the sun behind you. Ask your child to point to where the pot of gold sits and where the cloud sits, at opposite ends.
Coloring ideas
Color the six bands in rainbow order from the outside in: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Leave the fluffy cloud white or pale gray, and fill the little pot of gold with yellow coins so the page tells the whole leprechaun story.
A little learning
Naming the six rainbow colors in order is great practice for color words and for putting things in sequence. Kids can count the bands after naming them, which should come to six.
