Large three-leaf shamrock with smaller shamrocks, coloring page

Shamrock Coloring Page

One big three-leaf shamrock is surrounded by smaller ones. Count the three leaves, then compare with our four-leaf clover page. Try using a different shade of green for each leaf to see how many greens your crayon box holds.

Things to talk about while coloring

A shamrock is a young three-leaf clover and a well-known symbol of Ireland. St. Patrick's Day is on March 17, and many people wear green or a shamrock pin to celebrate. On your next walk, look for clover in the grass and count the leaves on a few plants together.

Coloring ideas

Use several shades of green, making the big shamrock the darkest and the small ones around it lighter. Older kids can draw vein lines inside each leaf and color them a deeper green, or fill the background with a simple stripe pattern.

A little learning

Counting three leaves on every shamrock, then counting the shamrocks themselves, gives kids lots of practice with the number three and the number four. Shamrock starts with the SH sound, the quiet sound we make to ask for hush.
