This free number 5 tracing worksheet helps kids learn to write five the same way every time. Trace the dotted rows, then try the blank lines. Pick a line size, print on Letter or A4, and pair it with a quick counting game.
How to write the number 5
- Start at the top line on the right and make a line across to the left.
- Without lifting, pull down to just above the middle dashed line.
- Curve out around to the right and down to the bottom line, ending on the left.
Teaching tip for 5
Our 5 starts with the flat hat at the top, then goes down and around for the belly. If the belly faces left, it becomes a backward 5, so trace the curve slowly.
Count to 5 with real things
- Count 5 fingers on one hand
- Drop 5 pennies into a jar
- Count 5 steps up the stairs
Writing a number sticks better when your child has just counted that many things with their hands.
