This free letter A tracing worksheet gives your child rows of capital A and lowercase a to trace, then blank lines to try on their own. Pick a line size for their age, print it on Letter or A4, and practice for five minutes a day.
How to write a capital A
- Start at the top line and slant down to the left to the bottom line.
- Go back to the same point on the top line and slant down to the right.
- Cross the middle with a short line from left to right, just below the middle dashed line.
How to write a lowercase a
- Start just under the middle dashed line on the right side.
- Curve up and around to the left, down to the bottom line, and back up to close a small circle.
- Pull a straight line down the right side from the middle dashed line to the bottom line.
Teaching tip for A
Lowercase a is a circle first and a short line second, so kids who can draw a round ball are already halfway there. Watch for a line drawn on the left, which turns it into a backward a.
