This free letter X tracing worksheet gives your child rows of capital X and lowercase x to trace, then blank lines to try on their own. Pick a line size for their age, print it on Letter or A4, and practice for five minutes a day.
How to write a capital X
- Start at the top line on the left and slant down to the bottom line on the right.
- Start at the top line on the right and slant down to the bottom line on the left, crossing in the middle.
How to write a lowercase x
- Start at the middle dashed line on the left and slant down to the bottom line on the right.
- Start at the middle dashed line on the right and slant down to the left, crossing in the middle.
Teaching tip for X
Few picture words start with x, so we include words that end in x, like box, fox, and six, where kids hear the "ks" sound. Both slants start at the top so the lines cross right in the middle.
Words that start with X
Say these out loud while your child traces, or have them draw one at the bottom of the page.

Once X feels easy, try the letters in your child's name with our name tracing worksheet maker. Kids practice harder when the word on the page is theirs.
