This free letter Y tracing worksheet gives your child rows of capital Y and lowercase y to trace, then blank lines to try on their own. Pick a line size for their age, print it on Letter or A4, and practice for five minutes a day.
How to write a capital Y
- Start at the top line on the left and slant down to the middle dashed line.
- Start at the top line on the right and slant down to meet it.
- Pull a straight line down from where they meet to the bottom line.
How to write a lowercase y
- Start at the middle dashed line on the left and slant down to the bottom line.
- Start at the middle dashed line on the right and make a long slant down to the left, below the bottom line.
Teaching tip for Y
Capital Y stays above the bottom line, but lowercase y has a long tail that drops below it. The second slant is the long one, so start it at the right.
