This free letter R tracing worksheet gives your child rows of capital R and lowercase r to trace, then blank lines to try on their own. Pick a line size for their age, print it on Letter or A4, and practice for five minutes a day.
How to write a capital R
- Pull a straight line down from the top line to the bottom line.
- Go back to the top, curve out to the right, and come back in to touch the line at the middle dashed line.
- Start where the curve meets the middle and slant down to the right to the bottom line.
How to write a lowercase r
- Pull a short line down from the middle dashed line to the bottom line.
- Start partway up that line and curve up and over to the right, stopping just past the top of the curve.
Teaching tip for R
Capital R is a P with a leg kicking out. Lowercase r is the start of an n that stops early, so remind kids not to pull the curve all the way down.
